Be at the top of your game…
20 April 2009

In the current market we are inevitably being inundated with candidates and our vow to respond to every candidate who contacts us is becoming more and more challenging. However, we are endeavouring to get back to everyone in time, especially as we have received a huge number of thankyous from candidates in appreciation of our communication.

"I just wanted to say thank you for such a lovely and constructive response to my application. I think it is the best reply I have ever had from a recruiter and I sincerely hope you do very well in the future and I will of course be in touch with you should I decide to relocate. Thank you for restoring my faith in recruiters and best of luck to you!"

"Thanks very much for getting back to me anyway. You'd be surprised how many companies wouldn't bother believe me!"

We understand how frustrating and in some cases such as following redundancy, demoralising it can be to apply for lots of roles and never hear back from companies or agencies. It still astounds us when we speak to candidates who have not even heard back from agencies when they have been for a job interview with an employer. Constructive feedback is key to improving at interview and getting that step closer to securing a new role, so we always do our upmost to provide post-interview feedback.

I'm sure you don't need us to tell you that the market is competitive if you are on the look out for a new job and this means that employers can be more particular about the skills and experience desired and more selective around these requirements when it comes to shortlisting for interview. The key to success is to be at the top of your game and differentiate yourself from other candidates. Start by tailoring your CV to the role you are applying for and including a profile at the top highlighting your key relevant skills, experience and career objectives. Use your marketing expertise and market yourself well!
